Shelly Haynes

Shelly Haynes

Program Coordinator, Architecture

While currently living in St. Joseph, Missouri, Shelly originally hails from the Flint Hills of Wabaunsee County, Kansas. She has lived in the tri-state region of Kansas, Colorado, and Missouri. She values education and learning; completing certifications in technical drafting, secondary teaching, peer support, and master gardening. She obtained an undergraduate degree in Computer Information Systems from Washburn University in 1989, and most recently a graduate degree from Missouri Western State University in Technical Communications in 2021.

Most of her career has been spent in education working in one position or another. When her children were small, she volunteered in their classroom and social activities. As they grew, she became a teacher. After a long period of teaching middle and high school students鈥 technology education, as well as substituting for a few years, Shelly decided to step out of the public school system.

For the past eight years, Shelly has divided her time between working and volunteering at the St. Joseph Museums and taking care of adults with developmental disabilities, which her boss called 鈥楪od鈥檚 work鈥. When not at work you can find her spending time with her daughter, Bailey or her cat, Tigger. She also has a love of nature, the arts, the built environment, and being with friends and extended family.

She is very pleased and grateful to be a part of the Architecture Program here at 小草影院. Her role is to support the professors in their endeavors to teach Classical Architecture to these young, brilliant minds; and to help the department steadily grow in beauty, order, and meaning.
